CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some familiar names will top their respective ballots in Cook County political races this June.
Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough picked the names out of a fishbowl to determine first ballot position in several county races. And incumbent Democratic Sheriff Tom Dart will be No. 1 in his primary.
But challenger Carmen Navarro-Gercone — a first-time candidate, and 26-year veteran of the Cook County Sheriff’s Department — wasn’t complaining.
Navarro-Gercone said she's just happy to be on the ballot, adding she was a single mom on public aid when she first started working at the sheriff's office. Noland Rivera is the other candidate in that race.
Incumbent Water Reclamation Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos cheered when she got first ballot position in her race. And County Commissioner Frank Aguilar is the top name in his contest too.
