ANTIOCH, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After a ten-year-old boy was thrown from a carnival ride in Antioch, village officials are focused on making sure this tragic incident never happens again.

As a parent himself, Antioch Village Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow said people walk onto these rides thinking they are going to operate safely.

"When something like this happens, it really does rock the foundation of the community and makes us all take a harder look at what is safe and what is not."

The Illinois Department of Labor's division of amusement ride safety is responsible for inspecting these types of rides on an annual basis and issuing permits.

A bolt-by-bolt inspection will take place on the ride and the Guttschow said the police department's role in the investigation is to ensure that necessary safety protocols were followed.
