ANTIOCH, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police are investigating after car thieves hit two north suburban dealerships. One incident was early Thursday morning.

The first incident happened around 7 a.m. Saturday morning at Kunes Country Ford, in the 100 block of Route 173 in Antioch. Police said multiple suspects arrived at the dealership in two separate vehicles and stole a 2019 Ford F-350 off the lot.

In addition to the F-350, an attempt was made to steal another truck by breaking out a window of the vehicle. The attempt to steal the second vehicle was unsuccessful.

Investigators said early Thursday morning around 2 a.m. several subjects arrived at the same dealership, Kunes Country Ford, again in two separate vehicles. Surveillance video showed multiple vehicles were damaged in an effort to steal more cars.

The thieves then moved over to a neighboring dealership, where an employee alerted police.

When the first police officer arrived on scene, the suspects nearly struck his squad as they fled in the two vehicles. Due to safety concerns, the responding officers ended any attempts to stop the offenders as they already showed no concern for general traffic on Route 173 and the responding officers, according to Antioch police.

During the second incident, offenders were successful in stealing an unknown amount of vehicles. The dealership is currently reviewing their inventory, police said.
