CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Members of Chicago’s Afghan community told WBBM Newsradio that many of their family members still in Afghanistan were headed to Kabul where they are seeking visas to evacuate the country.

Kabul is Afghanistan’s capital and considered the safest place to be right now, according to Satya who is going by just her first name.

She has family headed there right now and shared where Afghans may plan on going next.

"Like, there's talks of, you know, if you work with American officials, you can get a special visa to get out. So I think that's probably what they're trying to figure out. If they can qualify for that or I think the next option is getting visas to get to Turkey or Tajikistan. But, again, that costs a lot of money. So depends on each person's situation if that's even an option,” Satya told WBBM Newsradio.

oSatya added that locally people are raising money for their own displaced family members still in Afghanistan.
