(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The owner of a bike shop that opened on Chicago's Southwest Side 103 years ago is retiring and selling the business.
Paul Weise is the third person to own what is now called Beverly Bike and Ski, which began selling and servicing bikes in 1921.
When he took over the Western Avenue business in 1996, he added sales and rentals of skis, sleds and showshoes.
“I was selling bikes to kids that were 12, 13 years old, and now, I’m selling bikes to their kids,” Weise said.
But the 68-year-old says it's time to retire and sell the business. Weise says some residents in the Beverly community are interested in buying the shop.
What will he do in retirement? “I plan on riding my bike,” Weise said.
