
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The springtime tradition of lifting city bridges in order for boats to enter Lake Michigan resumes today. It began at 9 a.m. and is expected to last for four hours or so, according to the city.
The typical process consists of 27 Chicago bridges, from Ashland to DuSable Lake Shore Drive, raised in order, one at a time. Each lift lasts about eight to ten minutes.
The first bridge lift for the spring was on May 4 and will continue on Saturdays and Wednesdays until the end of June.
