CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Police Marine Unit is reminding boaters to do something that would seem to need no reminder.

The Marine Unit posted a video on it’s Twitter page, showing the back of a police boat and a rope extended as it towed a small power boat.

The Unit heard a call on the marine radio that a boat was disabled a half mile off North Avenue Beach, because it ran out of gas.

The police offered a tip: fill up your gas tank. It was a 21-foot boat with one adult, two kids and what police described as one feisty terrier on board.

The boat was towed to Diversey Harbor.
