CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago City Council is laying out new rules after several "disruptions" at recent meetings.

The rules of conduct for the public comment portion of council meetings prohibit "profane, vulgar, and threatening language" and ban "discriminatory, demeaning, and harassing behavior towards others."

They also remind people that banners and signs are not allowed. Members of the public are also told to stay seated and unless providing public comment.

Violators will first get a warning, and then removed if problems persist.

The rules come after recent tension over issues such as migrant shelters, flooding on the west side, and more have turned the public comment portion of city council meetings into unruly crosstalk.
