(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A South Side resident lost his favorite coffee spot to the pandemic, and so he decided to do it himself.

Cortez Wash is founder of Javez Java at 115th and Halsted in West Pullman, a business he launched in 2020 after his favorite coffee store shut down.

He said his daughter challenged him.

“My daughter kind of nudged me on it and said, ‘Hey, dad, you’ve got to do something, you’ve got to stop complaining and make your own coffee,” Wash told the Noon Business Hour on Friday.

So, he started testing beans and coffee combinations at home. He called the business Javez Java.

“It’s phenomenal, and it’s also a blessing just to be in a place that I can give back and also the community is in turn reciprocating by purchasing the coffee,” Wash said.
