CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- This has been a bittersweet year for Chicago Cubs fans as they watched some of their favorite players get dealt to other teams; but on Thursday, the Cubs will be celebrating the completion of their Wrigley Field restoration and expansion project, otherwise known as the 1060 Project.

The Cubs have a big event planned Thursday at Wrigley Field, with Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, team executives, and state and local political leaders on hand.

At the Wrigley Field Rededication event, the Cubs will unveil two new plaques under the Wrigley Field marquee: one to commemorate Wrigley Field’s official designation as a National Historic Landmark and one to demonstrate the Ricketts’ family commitment to preserving Wrigley Field.

A new Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame will also be unveiled with 56 plaques honoring Cubs legends, players, managers, broadcasters, owners, and others. Among them will be Margaret Donahue. She was Major League Baseball’s first female officer, who was not a team owner. It will be located on the concourse of the left field bleachers.

“Honoring those who came before us and those who will come after us is critical to respecting the rich history and tradition of the Chicago Cubs,” said Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney.

The Cubs expect to continuously add new inductees to the hall. Criteria include being a Cubs player for five or more years or having made a significant contribution to the team through service or time.

The Wrigley Field Rededication event will conclude with the premiere of a new documentary created by Cubs Productions that details the multi-Zf.lkm year restoration and expansion of the Friendly Confines, designed to preserve the ballpark for future generations to come. The documentary titled “Saving Wrigley Field” will air post-event on the Cubs YouTube channel.

“‘Saving Wrigley Field’ tells the unique story of what the Cubs organization experienced over more than a decade in making the emotional versus rational decision to restore the ballpark,” said Cubs Vice President of Marketing Lauren Fritts. “The documentary highlights the opposition the organization faced in saving the Friendly Confines and how it prevailed in restoring Wrigley Field for the next generation of Cubs fans.”
