Editor's note, Oct. 30, 2023: On Oct. 30, the Illinois Department of Transportation said it would delay its temporary closure of the Ohio feeder ramp on the Kennedy Expressway. Officials did not announce a date for when the closure would take place.
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Roadwork on the Kennedy Expressway has been nothing new for Chicagoans in 2023, but a temporary ramp closure downtown will cause additional headaches for the next couple of weeks.
As Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) crews continue a long-term construction project on the Kennedy Expressway, the ramp to the Ohio Feeder from the inbound local lanes will close for two weeks, starting Monday morning.
During the Ohio Feeder ramp closure, drivers will still be able to access the Ohio Feeder from the Kennedy’s express lanes.
This is part of the $150 million, three-year project to enhance bridges, signs, lights and pavement on the busy expressway.
Since March, two lanes on the inbound Kennedy have been closed for the project's first phase, which is expected to wrap up by the end of November.
Phase Two will begin in March 2024, when the express lanes will be closed for most of the year. Listen to WBBM's traffic and weather updates on the eights for the most up-to-date information.
