CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago region once again has the dubious distinction of having the worst overall air quality in the world as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to blanket the area.

IQ Air, which posts air quality numbers from around the world, forecasts another unhealthy air quality day for the Chicago area, but things should become a bit more moderate tomorrow.

In the meantime, many people are opting for more inside activities. In fact, the Chicago Public Schools summer programs will be moved indoors today because of the air.

Jie Zhao of Delos Labs talked to CBS-2 and had suggestions for keeping smoke particles from getting into your home.

“Close your windows and doors. Seal them off with towels and things, what you can think of, and seal them as much as possible,” Zhao said.

Ali Culotta of the New York Band,  “Stop the Presses,” told CBS-2 the band had to cancel its scheduled show at Reggie’s On the Beach at 63rd and the lake because of poor air quality.

“Our show has a really big dancing element to it. Our background dancers. And, I think it would be really difficult for any of us to be so active dancing, performing, singing,”

Still, the show went on at Wrigley Field again Wednesday night as the Cubs played the Phillies, and the fireworks show at Navy Pier went on as scheduled last night.

Detroit, Washington DC and Dubai are among other cities with poor air quality today as well.
