The city of Chicago has seen tourism numbers get closer to pre-pandemic levels, and the head of the city's tourism office said they hope a new ad campaign will get more people to visit.

Lynn Osmond, the president and CEO of Choose Chicago, said there's plenty of evidence that visitors are returning to the city.

“I’m sure if you’re walking down the streets, you’re seeing crowds of people. Osmond said. “We’re hearing languages from all around the world, and last week we had over 80% occupied in our hotels.”

In May 2022, occupancy in Chicago’s central business district hotels surpassed May 2019 levels, city officials wrote in a press release.

Even so, Osmond said Chicago's tourism numbers aren't expected to return to pre-pandemic levels until the end of 2023.

“We’re looking at a full recovery by the end of 2023," Osmond said. "But we’re seeing really bright signs that it could be happening before that.”

Her office is launching an ad campaign called "Chicago: When You Go, You Know."

It will not only aim to get more out-of-towners to visit Chicago, but it’ll also encourage people here to take advantage of all the city has to offer.
