Members of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police are voting today on whether to keep John Catanzara or go in a new direction with Detective John Bartlett.
John Catanzara has been a controversial leader whose combative style, frequently sparring with the mayor - for whom he has zero respect - showing up at City Hall in a Trump Jersey and downplaying the January 6th riot at the Capitol, has rubbed some the wrong way.
Some feel he has not helped the union. Caranzara sees his style as a positive.
Detective Robert Bartlett, on the job for 24-years, wants to re-establish relationships, get officers better pay, improve mental health services and change public perceptions.
Craig Futterman, a police accountability expert and law professor at the University of Chicago told the Tribune, “I don’t think this election matters.”
He said, while they have different styles, both would represent the same interests.
He thinks Bartlett will come out the winner.
