(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The city of Chicago is rolling out special vending machines to help prevent overdoses.
It’s part of a pilot program under the Chicago Department of Public Health. Each machine will be stocked with Naloxone, or Narcan; fentanyl test strips; general hygiene kits; socks and underwear and other important public health supplies.
Users will need a free PIN number from the health agency to access many of the items, but not the NARCAN. That will come out with the simple code: 1234.
The city health department will be tracking inventory, usage need and publishing data on the program.
The machine locations are: the Uptown library branch; the Garfield Community Service Center, the Harold Washington Library (main branch); the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line CTA Station and the Roseland Community Triage Center.
