
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A police chase involving the Chicago Police Department and Illinois State Police early this morning resulted in a shooting by a police officer on the City's West Side.
There had been a pursuit on the northbound Dan Ryan Expressway, starting at 63rd Street, at about 3 a.m.
Illinois State Police said a vehicle was spotted that had been wanted for a robbery. They attempted a traffic stop. The driver sped away, leading to a chase that went north and then west for 13 miles and ending with a crash on Cicero and Monroe.
Three people in the car tried to run, according to police.
A statement from Chicago Police said, while the suspects were being taken into custody, an officer’s weapon accidentally discharged.
Nobody was hit, the CPD said.
Two of the suspects and one officer were taken to hospitals for observation, meaning no serious injuries.
