
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some of the passengers on the Chicago-bound Amtrak train that crashed and derailed Monday have retained lawyers, aiming to file lawsuits.
The law firm representing a Kansas couple on board that Amtrak train says the couple will file suit against Amtrak and the company that owned the truck that blocked the tracks at a Missouri crossing.
Attorney Kristofer Riddle is beginning the investigation for his firm, Clifford Law Offices in Chicago.
“You look at train operation and rail operation. There are recorders that were on the train. Those are going to be pulled, and data will be coming out from the NTSB regarding the train speed,” he said.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigation the crash, which killed four people — three aboard the train and the truck driver.
Riddle says attorneys will also be looking at the truck driver’s record and the company’s safety record.
