
COOK COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago man already on federal probation now faces felony charges for peddling counterfeit Cubs hats outside Wrigley Field.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said 37-year-old Bruce Lee was arrested last week after a counterfeit trademark investigation conducted by the Special Operations Unit. He has been charged with one felony count of Unauthorized Use of Trademark.
Undercover officers busted Lee last week when they bought counterfeit Cubs bucket hats from him, two separate times. He told police he was selling hats for $25 each.
A brand representative confirmed to authorities that the hats were fake. Officers also found at Lee’s stand an additional 78 counterfeit hats as well as some Bears beanie hats.
The 37-year-old man was currently on federal probation, convicted two years ago for fraudulently selling White Sox tickets.
A Cook County Judge set a $2,900 bond for Lee. He will next appear in court June 1.
