A 50-year-old Chicago attorney has been missing for a week, and friends and family members are asking the public for help.

Lane G. Campbell was last seen the morning of Feb. 19 at his girlfriend’s home in Oak Forest, according to a bulletin. He is believed to have traveled back to his Chicago apartment in the Buena Park neighborhood, based on a search of the residence later.

“We need to find this man because he’s important to all of us,” says Mark Sheppard, who has known Campbell for 25 years, since law school.

Campbell’s ex-wife, Julia Campbell, says she is still one of his best friends. There is surveillance video from a week ago showing Campbell near Oak Forest in his girlfriend’s car.

“There’s a possibility — and certainly his last cell phone ping indicates — that he may have come to Chicago and gone back to Oak Forest,” she said Thursday.

Campbell works in the Office of Research at Northwestern University and has lived in Chicago for the past two decades.

University police are working with the Chicago Police Department and their counterparts in Oak Forest. A private investigator also has been engaged.

Campbell is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 240 pounds. He was last known to be wearing a purple Jay Gonzalez hooded sweatshirt and a navy Patagonia coat with a customized “Flappie” patch.

Campbell is known as an ardent supporter of Chicago’s Americana music scene.

Tips can be submitted to Chicago police at (312) 744-8266.
