CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Although it’s still early in August, the Chicago Park District has announced it is already preparing its pools for the fall season.

Park district leaders said teams have been actively working to recruit residents to fill seasonal lifeguard positions, as many of their summer lifeguards are 16- to 19-year-olds who are heading back to school in the fall.

The pool schedule for the second half of summer will run through Aug. 25, which is the day before the start of school for Chicago Public Schools students.

Then indoor pools will get maintenance and repair work done and reopen for the fall on Sept. 3.

A total of 22 beaches will stay open through Labor Day, and fall pool programs will begin the week of Sept. 16.

More information about schedules and fall pool programs can be found on the Chicago Park District website.
