CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Election Day is less than a month away, but thousands of Chicagoans have already done their civic duty.

Max Bever, with the Chicago Board of Elections (CBOE), told WBBM the city’s early voting numbers are off to a good start compared to 2020.

“That was a different time, when there was a pandemic, but many people had their minds made up and wanted to get their early vote cast first thing, get their civic done and out of the way,” he said.

As of this weekend, Bever said about 2,500 early vote ballots have been cast, and 367 vote-by-mail ballots have been received and reported. Even more people are expected to vote by mail, with the CBOE saying that over 232,000 vote-by-mail applications have been made.

Chicago opened its two central early voting locations on Thursday: the Loop Supersite at 191 N. Clark St., and the early voting center located on the sixth floor at 69 W. Washington St.

Both sites will be open for early voting every day through Nov. 4, the day before Election Day. Bever said Chicago’s 50 ward voting sites will open on Oct. 21.

“The other convenient fact about early voting in Chicago is it’s a vote anywhere program,” he said. “You can go to any of these sites; you don’t have to go to your own ward site.”
