Before NASCAR’s drivers take center stage in Grant Park this weekend, some local teens got their shot to race today.
As traffic races by in the northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive at East Monroe, Chicago Park District summer campers are revving their engines, or feet, here on the southbound side.
“This is the 13th year that the Chicago Park District has hosted this Teen Extreme Push Kart Derby.”
Superintendent Carlos Ramirez Rosa.
“We are so excited that this year, you all are going to do it here with NASCAR as their cars get ready to run this track in the beautiful city of Chicago.”
Among the hundreds of teens competing for the grand prize, tickets to this weekend’s NASCAR Chicago Street Race, is a confident Antwan Curry.
“I just know my team will come out here and win. We’ve got some dogs. We’re gonna work. This is exciting. Love the open view so the whole world can see us win.”
