A report from the Chicago Teachers Union is highly critical of charter school operators in the city for a variety of reasons.
The union accuses charter operators of closing schools without giving families adequate notice, using public funds to pay for private operations, and under-delivering for Black and special education students, as well as those learning English.
The report also claims charter operators are overwhelmingly anti-union.
The union accuses the Chicago Public Schools of providing inadequate oversight of charter schools.
In response, CPS released a statement claiming the district's oversight of charter schools follows state law as well as all related policies and procedures.
