CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In celebration of its 25th year, German American Events announced that the Christkindlmarket Chicago will return in-person, as well as online, in 2021.

In addition to its main location in Chicago's Daley Plaza, people can also visit the beloved holiday tradition at Gallagher Way outside Wrigley Field.

The German-style winter event, famous for its food, merchandise, and activities was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

“It’s been a tough year for all of us, especially for our vendors who own small businesses. We are so grateful that we can continue our beloved holiday event in person and celebrate our 25th anniversary with all our friends. Health and safety are always our top priority, and we will be providing detailed guidelines closer to the market opening,” announced CEO and General Manager Maren Biester Priebe, in a statement.

This year, the downtown location will be open from Nov. 19 through Christmas Eve and the Wrigleyville location will be open through Dec. 31.

The hours for the Daley Plaza location will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. There will be special hours on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

At the Wrigleyville location, hours will be 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. There will be special hours on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. The market will be closed on Christmas Day.

But wait, there's more good news! For a more exclusive experience, that includes being the first to shop from all the market vendors in a more intimate setting, guests can purchase tickets to the Twas  the Night Before Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza. The preview event takes place on the evening of Nov. 18 , from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the day before the official public opening of the market. Tickets are extremely limited to this special event and will be announced on social media at a later date.

Another popular tradition returning to the Chicago market in 2021 is the Stammtisch indoor dining. Visitors can reserve tables for up to eight people and choose from different food and drink packages that will be served family-style in the heated Timber Haus. The Stammtisch Reservation system will open within the next couple of weeks, allowing guests to skip waiting in line for food.

More information about each location, the vendors, and events is available on the Christkindlmarket website.

Plus, the virtual marketplace returns for a second year in a row for those who prefer celebrating the event from the comfort of their homes. The virtual market allows people to purchase Christkindlmarket collector’s items online and visitors can start pre-ordering from the Online Shop on Oct. 25.
