CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Nine years after he was convicted of the murders of his wife and three children, defense attorneys for Christopher Vaughn are trying to get him released from prison.

Defense attorney Jed Stone has signed on to the case and told the Chicago Sun-Times he’s pursuing several avenues he believes will show the Oswego man is innocent. Stone said he plans to petition Gov. J.B. Pritzker for clemency.

Vaughn was sentenced to four life sentences after a jury found him guilty of the 2007 murders of his wife Kimberly, 12 year-old daughter Abigayle, 11-year-old daughter Cassandra and 8-year-old son Blake.

Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow told the paper his team proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Vaughn shot his children at point-blank range after putting a gun under his wife’s chin.

A podcast has renewed attention to the case, which is slated to be the subject of an upcoming episode of the “Dr. Phil” show.
