CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Olive-Harvey College broke ground Thursday on an industrial hemp greenhouse that will be part of the college’s cannabis education program.
Olive-Harvey College President Kimberly Hollingsworth said many students would like to become entrepreneurs and maybe own a dispensary someday. So, the 1,500-square-foot structure seemed like a logical addition.
The first phase will be growing hemp plants that later will be destroyed.
“We are exploring an opportunity to have an extraction and infusion lab on campus. I haven’t really broken that to the chancellor yet,” she said, laughing. “This might be news to him.
“But we’ve had tremendous interest,” she added. “A number of chefs have been calling me and reaching out to me on social media about infused foods. So, that is something we’re also exploring.”
Hollingsworth says the greenhouse will accommodate about 25 plants.
