CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Members of the Saint Sabina faith community along with other organizations kicked off the first full weekend of summer in Chicago with the first of weekly Friday Peace Walks.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson walked alongside the large group in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood led by Father Michael Pfleger, the senior pastor fo Saint Sabina.

Also in attendance, a 10-year-old girl who survived being shot in the area last year on a June night along with three other people. She received an introduction and a hug from the new Chicago Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt.

During the peace walk, community members walked the streets and sidewalks near Saint Sabina, singing songs with positive messages and handing out flyers with resource information to youth and their families. Many carried large signs with pictures and stories of loved ones whose lives were taken by gun violence in the city.
