CHICAGO(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Community members are fighting back against the Chicago Housing Authority and the Chicago Fire Soccer Team ahead of the first hearing to stop development of public housing.

Community groups gathered in the Loop to fight back against the Chicago Housing Authority.

"We don't want soccer fields," they chanted. "We need public housing."

They're suing the CHA for leasing off 25 acres of land to the Chicago Fire for a new training facility.

Rodrick Wilson with the Lugenia Burns Hope Center said the land is supposed to belong to ABLA Homes, which has housed thousands of Chicagoans.

"The idea is that no one cares about bringing back the housing, and we're here to say no we do and as Black people, we've been displaced by public policy around using public resources, our land to move us out of the city, and we're saying that's gotta stop."

Laura Donaldson is an ABLA resident.

"The Chicago Fire doesn't need a thing. We do," she said. "The residents of Chicago need housing, and we're not gonna stop needing it."
