CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Many braved the cold Wednesday to pay their respects to a fallen Oak Park Police Detective Allan Reddins.

“It’s just like, ‘Man, here we go again,’” said Juan Macias with the group Brothers of the Fallen.

Outside Leak & Sons Funeral Home at 78th and Cottage Grove, family, friends and police officers from across the area hurried inside for Reddins’ visitation.

The 40-year-old and five-year veteran of the Oak Park Police Department was fatally shot the morning after Thanksgiving while responding to reports of an armed suspect.

Macias was serving up food and coffee across the street with the group Brothers of the Fallen.

“It’s important because when something like this happens, it brings everyone together. It’s tough, especially for a smaller department. It’s just tough on them,” said Macias.

A man leaving the visitation told us the detective’s family is hurting but feeling plenty of love from those who knew Reddins as well as those who didn’t.

A funeral is scheduled for Thursday morning.
