(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Congressman Michael Quigley says he's hopeful the stalled military aid package for embattled Ukraine will find new life after the first of the year.
Quigley, a Democrat, is co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus. He said House Republicans are standing in the way of the Ukraine aid package, because they've forgotten the Reagan Doctrine-the need to do support those fighting Communist aggression.
Quigley said Vladimir Putin's war on Ukraine must be stopped for the sake of international stability.
"Those in Tehran and Beijing that would look at other territories they could take-this would be nothing more than a green light to them," he explained. "Putin's aims are beyond merely Ukraine."
Quigley said he thinks the votes are there to approve aid for Ukraine and expects there could be movement by next spring.
"I think it will get done in the first quarter of the year. It has to, because Ukrainians are already starting to ration their ammunitions."
Still, he said if Republicans tie the aid to an unacceptable immigration bill, it may not get done.
