CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A road construction worker was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning on the Far South Side. Police are still looking for the driver.

According to Illinois State Police, the hit-and-run crash happened along the outbound Bishop Ford near 111th Street.

The right two lanes of southbound Interstate 94 were closed for construction and workers were present in the work zone. Just before 4 a.m., an unknown vehicle traveling southbound entered the closed lanes of the work zone and struck a worker.

The vehicle then fled the scene, police said.

The worker was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

It is unclear if witnesses have been of any help or if any cameras captured the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any knowledge of the crash is asked to contact the ISP by phone at 847-294-4400. Witnesses can remain anonymous.

In recent weeks, more cameras have been put to use on Chicago area expressways.

The outbound Bishop Ford Freeway was closed for a time while police investigated, but has since reopened.
