DIXMOOR, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- South suburban Dixmoor is now getting help from Cook County experts, as the village tries to resolve issues with its water supply that began last Saturday. Water has been limited or cut off to homes, schools and businesses in Dixmoor, which remains under a boil order.
The problems began with water main breaks, which led to several other issues including the burning out of a turbine used to maintain water pressure.
Dixmoor gets its water from neighboring Harvey, where a faulty valve is suspected to be at least part of the problem.
John Yonan, who leads Cook County's Bureau of Asset Management, said a clog in a feeder main in Harvey's water system has also been detected.
"That sudden instant pressure on that material sometimes causes the fatigue and you may have breaks in place you never thought you ever had problems in the past, so those are the issues that keep popping up," he said. "Those are the discussions we're going to be having with the village."
Yonan was asked when Dixmoor's water service might be fully restored and the boil order lifted.
"I don't have the answer to that question. We do have a few different options with bypass systems that could make it a short-term fix, but I don't know an overall timeline at this time," he replied.
