(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —The police chief in one suburb says he wants clearer rules about how to deal with residents whose barking dogs disturb neighbors trying to work from home.
Sugar Grove Police Chief Pat Rollins on Tuesday said his department has received a growing number about barking dogs that are interrupting work phone calls or video meetings.
Village trustees decided to discuss the issue, after one woman complained her neighbors would let their dogs out at the same time and the dogs would bark at each other, he said.
Eventually, police were called.
Rollins says Sugar Grove's noise ordinance only refers to "continuous" disturbances. It doesn’t specify how long or loudly neighboring dogs have to be barking before owners can face fines.
He's asked the Sugar Grove village board to consider more specific rules. Trustees are expected to do this at next month's meeting.
