CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago police union reportedly is challenging the suspensions of 17 police officers and supervisors who were accused of hanging out at a congressman's office over the summer as nearby stores were being ransacked by looters.
The officers were caught on camera sleeping, eating and drinking coffee inside Congressman Bobby Rush's office in the aftermath of social-justice protests across the city.
Rush and Mayor Lightfoot expressed outrage at the officers’ actions, but the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 insisted the congressman’s office had invited police to use the facility.
The suspensions range from one day to 20 days, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
