COVID-19 outbreaks hit 11 Chicago area schools

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In the last month, there have been 11 suburban schools hit by COVID-19 outbreaks in the Chicago area.

There were zero COVID-19 outbreaks in schools in Lake and Kane counties over the last 30 days, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health dashboard.

There were four outbreaks in DuPage County schools, three outbreaks in Cook County suburban schools and two outbreaks each in McHenry County and Will County schools.

The state defines an outbreak as five or more COVID-19 cases.

The sources of the outbreaks were almost evenly divided between sports activities and classrooms. Six were from classrooms and five were from sports activities.

This is a breakdown of the outbreaks for the past 30 days, according to IDPH.

Cook County: 3 outbreaks

McHenry County: 2 outbreaks
