CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A confusing image on Twitter featuring former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin and the Chicago Police Department Twitter handle has been debunked by the department.

An image of Chauvin at his trial last week for the murder of George Floyd appears to have been made into a meme with the words “We are all Derek Chauvin” written above it.

Added to the top of the image was a border that included the CPD Twitter handle, giving the appearance that it was tweeted by the department’s official account.

CPD said no such tweet was made from its account and reported the image to Twitter but the company said it would leave the tweet up for now.

One Twitter account that tweeted the image garnered more than 226,000 likes and more than 48,000 retweets since it posted the image 36 hours ago.
