CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Police Supt. David Brown is moving to fire an officer for the way he treated a woman two years ago on the Northwest Side.

Officer David Laskus used his baton to break the window of the car Mia Wright was in and then dragged her out of the car by her hair and knelt on her neck. This happened in a parking lot of the Brickyard Mall in May of 2020 during a time there had been looting in the Chicago area following the Minneapolis murder of George Floyd. But, there had been no indication Wright and the four others had been involved in any trouble.

Now, Laskus is accused of breaking 29 CPD rules and Supt. Brown wants him fired. The City Council, earlier this year approved a more than $1.5 million settlement with Wright and the four others who’d been in the car with her that day.

The Chicago Police Board will decide whether he loses his job or not.
