Need a way to get home on New Year's Eve? CTA will provide free rides tonight

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- If you're in need of a ride home from your New Year's Eve celebrations, the CTA has you covered.

It's an annual tradition. The CTA and Miller-Lite are partnering to provide free rides on CTA buses and trains between 10 p.m. Sunday and 4:00 a.m. Monday.

“We are always happy to provide free rides for our customers as they celebrate New Year’s Eve with relatives and friends,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr.

Customers won't have to tap their ventra cards or credit cards on buses or at train stations during the free ride period.

The yellow line is still shut down following November's accident, so riders will need to find alternate transportation if trying to get between the Howard Street terminal and Skokie.

As part of the sponsorship, CTA said Miller-Lite pays a fee that defrays the costs of providing free rides throughout the night.
