CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After an unusual find at O’Hare Airport last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a reminder to passengers about items that are not allowed into the country.

When customs agents searched the bags of two passengers who had flown in from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, they found raw goat meat. Specifically, they found 15 pounds of trachea, heart, lungs, liver and kidneys — as well as a pound of meat of unknown origin.

The agency said agents at Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport seized a box of giraffe feces last week.

Chicago Port Director Michael Pfeiffer said such items can harbor pests and diseases and could damage our food supply or native species if introduced into our agriculture systems.

Those who wish to import plant materials, animal materials and other agricultural items were instructed to look over the Customs and Border Protection Information Center section of its web page.
