CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The death of a man who came into contact with the third rail on the Chicago Transit Authority Red Line earlier this week has been ruled a homicide — and questions remain unanswered.
The 31-year-old man came into contact with the third rail at the 79th Street stop at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday. He later died.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death was electrocution from contact with the electrified third rail and ruled the death a homicide.
It will be up to police and prosecutors to determine whether the homicide was intentional or not.
This was the third incident involving the third rail on a CTA line this month, one of which was fatal. The others were considered accidental. Tuesday’s has been considered suspicious.
It’s unclear if it was captured on surveillance video. The incident remains under investigation.
