CHICAGO(WBBM NEWSRADIO)-- A local university is working with British royalty to end homelessness.
Britain's Prince William and The Royal Foundation have tapped the Ruff Institute of Global Homelessness at DePaul University as a partner for a new initiative to end homelessness in the United Kingdom.
Lydia Stazen, Director of the Ruff Institute, told WBBM that despite being fabulously wealthy, William realizes the seriousness of homelessness.
"His mother exposed him to homelessness when he was very young, so this is an issue that he carries really closely to his heart."
In a report commissioned by The Royal Foundation, one in five of the U.K. public have some personal experience of homelessness either directly or via family or friends.
The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless estimated 65,000 people were experiencing homelessness in Chicago in 2020.
