CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The "Wonderful World of Disney" has arrived on the North Side.

For Disney, the new “Disney100: The Exhibition” is a homecoming.

“Our ties to the Windy City tread deep, going all the way back to 1890 when Walt’s [Disney] parents, Elias and Flora, along with their first son Herbert moved here from Florida,” noted Kevin Curran, an archives manager with Disney.

Curran spoke at the ribbon cutting at the Exhibition Hub Arts Center, located at 2367 W. Logan Boulevard.

“I’m really happy that they set up shop here. They repurposed this building,” 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack said. “But, I’m looking at Chicagoland, and hopefully the whole Midwest uses this as a place to create new memories.”

Walt Disney grew up in Chicago, went to McKinley High School and began his career as a filmmaker a century ago.

Jodi Benson,  the voice of Ariel in "The Little Mermaid," attended the ceremony.

“I am so thrilled that this area gets to appreciate this exhibition. It’s truly just walking through the history of the 100 years of Walt’s legacy

The exhibition,  with archives from Disney's life and work,  opens Saturday, which is Mickey and Minnie's birthday.
