(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Next summer's Democratic National Convention is bringing a lot of excitement to Chicago's hotel industry.

While it may not be the biggest event Chicago's ever hosted, the 2024 DNC is going to have a long-term impact on the city's hotel industry.

"It's a game-changer for us,” Michael Jacobson, president and CEO of the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association, said Wednesday.

He said it’s a promising opportunity to change negative impressions some may have about the city.

"When you look at a lot of the misperceptions that exist out there about Chicago right now, much of that rhetoric is being spread by people that haven't stepped foot in our city in years,” Jacobson said. “So, I think we're going to be able to really change the narrative about the city by welcoming so many influencers here to Chicago to the DNC."

Jacobson said the convention is expected to accelerate the hotel industry's hiring process. Currently, there are more than 1,000 open positions.
