SOUTH ELGIN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Jupiter, Saturn and Harper were rescued from a South Korean meat farm last month.
When the dogs arrived at Anderson Humane in South Elgin, they were shy and unsocialized.
“All three of the dogs that we took were a little bit shut down to varying degrees,” said Anderson Humane’s Chief Operating Officer Dean Daubert. “They were shy, timid and needing to be coaxed just to approach people.”
After three weeks of rehabilitation and medical treatment, two of the three dogs are now ready for adoption.
Saturn is a 2-year-old Korean Jindo and Harper is a 3-year-old Collie mix.
“For both dogs, we're looking for an experienced dog owner, someone that's gonna take it slow, hopefully a quieter household would be ideal,” said Daubert. “We're not sure how they do with children or other dogs at this point, but I would expect that for the right person, they will warm up and be a great family pet.”
Jupiter, who is also a Korean Jindo, is progressing a bit slower.
Daubert says Anderson Humane’s medical team is taking extra time with his care.
“We don't anticipate that there's going to be many issues with him, but we don't want to exacerbate some of his issues by forcing him to move too fast through the system.”
The three Korean dogs were flown to Anderson Humane along with a stray named Ophelia.

The 1-year-old terrier mix had to be moved from her shelter in Florida because of overcrowding due to Hurricane Ian.
“She is just the sweetest, most adoptable dog out there,” said Daubert. “She's just beautiful. So if someone's looking to rescue one of the dogs that was displaced by the hurricane, she is going to make a great companion for somebody.”
Those interested in adopting Saturn, Harper or Ophelia should visit Anderson Humane's website.
