(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new feud is brewing in south suburban Dolton, where embattled Mayor Tiffany Henyard has named a new village attorney.

Trustees, however, say the appointment isn't legitimate because they didn't approve it.

Earlier this month, Henyard tried to hold her own board meeting but lacked a quorum. Nonetheless, she announced the hiring of attorney Beau Brindley.

“Mayor Henyard came to see me and asked to engage my office to represent her because Mayor Tiffany Henyard is under attack,” said Brindley. “Make no mistake about it.”

While Henyard has been accused of lavish spending and mishandling village finances, Brindley claimed the board of trustees is trying to usurp her role.

“She's under attack by a corrupt board of trustees that believes that they can subvert the will of the people and take over the mayor's office and the mayor's duties without ever winning that election,” Brindley said. “This attack comes in the form of false statements. This attack comes in the form of frivolous lawsuits and unconstitutional recall efforts.”

Due to the lack of a quorum, though, Dolton’s Board of Trustees said the meeting was unofficial — which means Brindley’s appointment was unofficial and unapproved.
