(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in south suburban Dolton are offering more information surrounding the circumstances of an Amber Alert issued late Monday.
Officials said they activated the alert after a 14-year-old girl was reported kidnapped earlier in the day.
The father of the teen told police he received a text from the girl in which she said she was in a vehicle with strangers outside a White Castle restaurant and they were demanding money from her. The father reportedly was able to find the car, but the driver sped off when he tried to open a door.
In the ensuing police chase, the suspect car caused a chain-reaction crash that injured an Illinois State Police trooper, officials said.
Chicago police found the girl, the suspect car and two underage people near 131st and Champlain early Tuesday.
The two juveniles are facing charges. The girl, who was returned to her family, has shared little information with investigators, police said.
