ALGONQUIN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --A school board candidate in District 300 reportedly filed a fake police report against an LGBTQ + teacher.
The false claim was filed after the openly gay, District 300 teacher made comments at a school board meeting supporting LGBTQ+ students and the district’s LGBTQ+ club, according to the Illinois Education Association.
The teacher, Lisa Kopetsky, said she was harassed and singled out after the now-candidate Kristina Konstanty filed a report with the Algonquin police department saying the teacher drove by her and spit on her as she was standing outside a building on school district property.
In the days following the report, District 300 administrators pulled security camera footage and found Konstanty’s claims to be entirely fabricated-showing instead Konstanty sticking up both of her middle fingers at Lisa Kopetsky as she drives away.
Kopetsky now claims Konstanty is harassing her with phone calls and email spam.
“I don’t want anyone else to go through what I’ve had to go through.That’s the only reason I’m sharing my story,” she said. “I love our schools and our community, but if I can be singled out and harassed because of my sexual orientation, so can our students. This is absolutely unacceptable. We have to do better.”
Konstanty has not commented on the matter.
The district noted her behavior was “confrontational, disrespectful and abusive” in a No Trespass Notification letter sent to Konstanty. The letter also stated that Konstanty is no longer allowed on District 300 property.
