Multiple people were struck by a vehicle that jumped a curb late Friday night in the Near North Side.
The car crashed in the 1200 block of North Wells Street and struck at least six people around 10:30 p.m., the Chicago Fire Department said.
A person driving a silver Lexus was headed south and a person in a white Toyota Prius was headed in the same direction. The Lexus driver tried to pass the Prius driver, but instead clipped the front end of the Prius, the driver lost control of the Lexus and jumped the curb, Chicago Police said.
The Lexus struck multiple people dining at an outside patio. Five were sent to nearby hospitals. Three went to St. Mary’s in good condition: a 26-year-old man with a bruised back, a 32-year-old man with a cut elbow and a 26-year-old woman with an injured foot. A 26-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman went to Northwestern Hospital in fair condition, both with broken legs, police said.
The driver of the Prius wasn’t injured.
Some of the people hit were dining outside at the restaurant and bar Uproar. The vehicle smashed into Uproar’s outdoor patio and the restaurant’s front door.
The driver left the car and fled the scene. No arrests have been made.
