PORTER COUNTY, IND. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Northwest Indiana driver faces charges after rear-ending a state trooper vehicle stopped on the Indiana Toll Road this past weekend.

Jeremy Lee has been charged with the misdemeanor of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated While Causing Endangerment, according to the Indiana State Police.

Lee was driving eastbound in a white 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck on I-90 at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he crashed into the trooper’s squad car. The police vehicle was in the left lane, along with a maintenance vehicle that had an arrow board, attending to the removal of a semi stalled on the median. Both the trooper’s car and the maintenance truck had their emergency lights on, state police said.

The trooper, seated in his car at the time of the crash, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He was treated and eventually released.

Indiana State Police said Lee appeared impaired, but refused all field sobriety tests at the scene, as well as certified chemical test. Lee sustained minor injuries from the crash and was transported to an area hospital. While there, state police obtained a warrant to draw blood from Lee.

Once treated and stabilized, Lee was transported to the Porter County Jail. He could face additional charges after the county prosecutor’s office reviews the case.
