CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With relatively little bickering, the DuPage County Board has voted to redraw its district boundary maps with 2020 census data in mind.

Thirteen of the DuPage County Board's 18 members voted to approve the new district boundaries.

But board member Amy Chavez, who voted no, said they don't reflect the demographic changes in the county. She and others also suggested preserving income and seats was an issue.

Board member Dawn DeSart asked map drawing consultant Josina Morita to assure the public that was not a factor.

"Was this map created with incumbents' addresses included?" DeSart asked.

Morita responded, "There was a layer of data but it was not a consideration. It was not something that was discussed in any of the redistricting meetings. But it was a layer that was in the data."

"But it was not used?" DeSart asked.

"It was not used. It was not an explicit consideration," Morita answered.

If the new map wasn't approved before Nov. 17, the county commission would draw the boundaries instead. No board members seemed to want that.
